An East Williamsburg warehouse redesigned as a car showroom, lounge space and event area.
Designed by Brooklyn-based architecture, interiors, and design studio Office of Tangible Space (OTS), Car Part Time is a former warehouse in East Williamsburg that provides a new kind of space where automotive fans can gather and socialize. The site now incorporates not only a showroom that displays a range of collectible cars, but also a lounge area with a record shop and an event space. Industrial in style to give a nod to the garage aesthetic, the venue also features an array of elegant details, including vintage pieces and splashes of color that contrast concrete surfaces, beautifully crafted elements and the warmth of natural materials.
Inside Car Part Time, visitors discover a rotating display of vintage cars which are available to purchase from licensed dealers. Partnering with record shop Freakout Spot, OTS included a satellite shop and listening area in the lounge space, effectively pairing automotive culture with contemporary design and music in a social hub.
The style of classic cars, with all their refined elegance and quality craftsmanship, defines the interior design. For example, walnut accents and cognac leather complement sage green inlays and mustard curtains in a sophisticated palette palette that still makes the space look and feel welcoming. Vintage pendant lights designed by Edward Durell Stone in 1962 illuminate the interior with a soft glow while giving a nod to the modernist era of some of the cars on display.
Other features include a bespoke OTS bar and bar cart, Frama stools, a linear Recycled Tube TL6 pendant by Castor Design, T-chairs by William Katavolos, and a Thomas Gayet coffee table. A social space and event area like no other, Car Part Time is a special project that brings both car and music lovers together in a stylish setting where people can relax, share their passions and connect.
