The ColourBolt X Moulton “X-Black” Bike

A stylish, high-end urban bike that looks like a work of art.

Created in a collaboration between established bike frame builder ColourBolt and iconic British marque Moulton Bicycles, the new X-Black bike is as gorgeous as one would expect it to be. Maybe because the two companies couldn’t be a better match even if they tried. Moulton Bicycles is the pioneering brand behind the small wheel bike revolution which started more than 50 years ago. ColourBolt crafts high-end bikes with signature ‘almost monochrome’ palettes that always include a single colored chainring bolt. After first discussing the concept of an urban bicycle at Bespoked, the largest hand-built bicycle festival in the UK, the brands designed their masterpiece: the X-Bike.

The build combines Dr. Alex Moulton’s legendary Moulton X bike with ColourBolt’s exclusive Drenched Black finish. Super-tough and durable, the paint has a beautifully textured effect. At the same time, the industrial-grade powder coat finish ensures that the bike will handle years of riding with elegance. To make the build suitable for everyday use in urban environments, the teams modified the bike accordingly. X-Black comes with a 135mm axle spacing for a Chris King hub and a premium Brooks C13 saddle.

Apart from a Chris King headset, the hand-built bike also features signature 17’’ Moulton wheels paired with Schwalbe Kojak tires. The stainless steel “wishbone” Moulton stem boasts a mirror finish to adds more style to the design. Naturally, the X-Black bike features a single colored bolt, added on the 60-tooth De Luna Chainring from Bespoke Chainrings. If you have fallen in love with this stunning ride – who could resist, really – you can order it now at a price of £6.500 which is around $8300. Photographs© ColourBolt and Moulton Bicycles.
