Denim: classic, reliable, versatile. The beauty of the material lies in its simplicity, a fact that British brand Hawksmill, set to launch its 2015 Fall/Winter line in stores such as Oi Polloi and Edifice 417, has embraced with open arms. Founder Fraser Trewik brings 20+ years of experience with brands like Duffer of St George and Nudie Jeans to the operation based out of Brighton in the UK. With a selection of simple denim clothing, the company’s central focus is less on quality and fit. Anyone – stylish or not — can tell you how hard it is to find a “good” pair of jeans; as a wardrobe staple, they’ve got to fit right. Five fits, ranging from Slim Tapered to Regular Tapered, tackle this issue in a reinterpretation of the traditional five pocket while contemporary silhouettes are offered to please a variety of tastes. Quality material and construction go a long way with Cones Mills White Oak selvedge and Union Special machines, giving each trusty piece a sense of character. Despite the company’s emphasis, Hawksmill offers basics beyond denim like utilitarian jackets and shirts, which complete the well-made and perfectly minimal collection.

Lizzie Wright is an aspiring artist and designer with a passion for the written word. While she works on her BFA in Industrial Design at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), she spends her (rare) spare time riding around Providence on her trusty Cannondale and drinking lots of coffee. She is especially fascinated by the dichotomy between aesthetic form and function, which has an immense influence on her work. As a lover of the natural world, Lizzie plans to focus on Nature, Culture, and Sustainability Studies to pursue a more efficient future for design. Read more by visiting her website
