House for Gudrun by Sven Matt

View all 9 Photos

House for Gudrun is a cozy little two-bedroom in Mellau of Vorarlberg, Austria, and proves that square footage is by no means a fair metric good design. Architect Sven Matt transforms the house into a home with the warm wooden interiors. Accents of a darker, richer wood such as the wardrobe and reading cubby help give added dimension to the design. The exterior of the house is constructed from prefab timber, and encases a peaceful space conducive to reading and enjoying the picture-perfect view. A terrace and large west-facing window help incorporate the nature outside into the home, which is simply organized with two private bedrooms that are wrapped by an L-shaped area for common living space.
