A series of near-future concepts that re-imagine digital interactions and connectivity in home settings.

London-based design studio LAYER continually explores cutting-edge concepts that blend high-tech features and minimalism. With Concept T, the firm takes this approach to design even further. Created in a collaboration with Deutsche Telekom Design and Customer Experience, this project proposes three near-future concepts for home settings. The collection re-imagines the realms of digital communication and connectivity to offer a more personal and intuitive user experience. The series comprises the View, Level, and Buddy concepts – a holographic hub, modular router, and mobile smart assistant, respectively.

The View holographic home hub brings a more friendly face to digital connectivity. Equipped with an AI, 3D holographic virtual assistant named Emma and smart depth cameras, it guides users through their digital interactions, allowing them to make holographic calls. The innovative prototype thus enables more realistic face-to-face interactions across any distance.

Designed with customization in mind, Level is a modular router that users can easily re-configure to suit their needs. This prototype comprises four modular components: a display unit, a WiFi signal receiver, a mesh repeater, and a Web3 computational module. Apart from allowing users to customize their router according to their requirements, Level also allows them to upgrade parts as technology evolves. Additionally, Concept T’s Level has a futuristic design with geometric forms, doubling as a design object.

Finally, Buddy is an AI-based smart assistant and router that has a conveniently mobile design. Moving around the home, Buddy adapts to the user’s daily routines and constantly evolves to provide personalized assistance. This prototype has a modular head-unit with a digital display and can also project information on any surfaces. Apart from important reminders, Buddy can also control other smart systems in the home to enhance comfort and help with online shopping, calls, workouts, and more.

LAYER and Deutsche Telekom have unveiled the Concept T collection at the Mobile World Congress, which took place in Barcelona from 26 to 29 February 2024. Visitors could see the three concepts up close and even take a 3D hologram of themselves as a keepsake. Images courtesy of LAYER.
