Nuvolino, From Ancient Ritual to Modern Sculpture

A sculptural incense burner that infuses spaces with a whimsy atmosphere.

Part design object, part practical home accessory, Nuvolino gives the ancient incense burning ritual a whimsical twist. To create Nuvolino, Italian designer Giulio Iacchetti drew inspiration from the German Räuchermann, a traditional wooden incense smoker predominantly displayed during the Christmas season. While the figurine usually depicted craftspeople, miners, chimney sweepers, foresters, or soldiers, in this case the designer chose a more abstract form that is as charming as it is intriguing.

“I imagined a small household object, a gentle alien that has landed in people’s homes to bring a breath of scented air, crafted in Italy by skilled ceramic artisans,” says Giulio Iacchetti.

The sculptural object looks like a friendly character that comes to life when the user lights the incense cone. Hidden inside the base, the incense burns to create a veil of scented smoke that infuses the surroundings with a beautiful fragrance. Crafted from white ceramic with a smooth texture, Nuvolino engages the senses to bring a sense of whimsy into living spaces.

Whether used for quiet meditation or to brighten up the mood with a fresh scent, Nuvolino gives the age-old incense burning ritual a modern flavor. The design reimagines the traditional German figurine as a minimalist object while providing the perfect way to bring a touch of magic to Christmas celebrations or everyday moments of relaxation.
