This three-story townhouse in London was extensively renovated by Simon Astridge Architecture Workshop. Though called the Plywood House, the project makes use of concrete, brick, and stone as well. These natural materials give texture to the otherwise stark minimalist space. The choices of material are relatively affordable as well, so it’s no surprise that the refurbishment was featured on BBC2’s The £100k House.

Inside the home, one sees that, in addition to the tangible materials, there is another key player in the design: sunlight. There are large windows and skylights in the pre-existing rooms and in the extension. In the main home, skylights open up the bathrooms and the plywood staircase and bedroom. In the extended kitchen and dining area, both skylights and glazed windows bring warmth and beauty to the concrete room.
