Harbin, the capital of the Heilongjiang province in China, showcases a spectacular winter wonderland in the 28th Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival on January 5. Some of China’s best ice sculptors are contributing with their work at this amazing festival where visitors can gaze in awe at their impressive creations and be enchanted by the sculptures’ colorful illumination at night. Navigating through the ice city is an adventure in itself as guests can travel on foot, horse and carriage, a snowy slide, or climb up the staircases of the ice castles. This festival has been a part of Harbin culture since 1963. It lasts about a month, but can open earlier or later if the weather permits. Ice sculptures were decorated from a range of technologies like modern lasers or traditional ice lanterns. Guests can also tour the ice lantern parks in the city and can enjoy the Yabuli alpine skiing, the ice lantern exhibition in the Zhaolin Garden and winter swimming in the Songhua River.
