Yin Xiuzhen’s Portable Cities

View all 4 Photos

“Portable Cityclothes,” a mixed media project by artist Yin Xiuzhen, upcycles old clothes into suitcase cityscapes. For each little world, Xiuzhen takes clothes from the city represented and turns them into culturally-coded buildings. The fabrics show the texture and color of each place, and, nearby each piece, a tape plays locally-recorded sounds on loop.
