A modern bike with a vintage soul.

Vagabund Moto has become a well-known workshop in the Austrian custom bike scene and beyond thanks to a range of sleekly designed BMW bikes. While their builds often feature futuristic details, this custom BMW R100R stands out among the workshop’s previous projects. Finished with a vintage touch, the bike showcases the team’s versatility and desire to keep the builds fresh and interesting. For this project, Vagabund Moto worked with a BMW R100R bike from 1991. The brief included two important points: the client wanted a design with an old-time feel, and the team also had to incorporate the legally required first aid kit.

The workshop built a new subframe, took off some bulk on the forks, installed a CNC-machined fork brace, and added some new Honda Transalp fork caps. A custom fuel tank sourced from a Ukrainian Dnepr MT motorcycle gives the bike a distinctive appearance, while the bespoke leather saddle adds a vintage touch. Underneath the saddle, there’s a Brooks leather bag which contains the first aid kit. The team kept the elegant spoked wheels, but paired them with Dunlop Trailmax tires. Other features include 3D-printed cases for the switches, Motogadget speedometer and turn signals, as well as shortened handlebars. Finally, this custom BMW R100R comes with a blue-gray paint finish and the workshop’s logos on the engine. It’s a gorgeous bike that blends vintage and contemporary details in a build with character.
