Baking is a wondrous craft, carefully measured yet tactile and expressive. These characteristics are applicable to couture, and it seems logical that Studiolav would link fashion and food – more specifically, patterning and baking. Designer Baking, a set of kitchen stamps, brings iconic patterns including houndstooth and herringbone to the textures of breads and other baked delights. Also inspired by the connection between olive oil and bread, the relief patterns are carved on olive wood blocks, each shaped in the form of a pyramid for easy handling and long-lasting use. The contemporary patterns as presented through the rustic medium makes the act of baking evocative of family traditions as well as fun and creative in the modern. Designer Baking is part of the initiative at Skoufa Gallery in Athens that challenges designers to employ olive wood in works that tie the past with the present.
