The Creative Sculptures Of Massimiliano Pelletti

View all 18 Photos

A creative fusion of antique-style and contemporary art.

After studying marble as well as classic techniques alongside his grandfather in the family workshop in Pietrasanta, Italy, Massimiliano Pelletti went on to carve out a successful path as an artist. His work features a striking blend of antique and contemporary elements. On one hand, the modern day sculptures reference ancient artworks, but on the other, they integrate creative, ingenious elements that mark them clearly as contemporary works of art.

Apart from this fusion of styles, the sculptures also feature a rich selection of contrasting materials and techniques. One breccia marble sculpture boasts an onyx and bronze inlay, while a bronze head opens up to reveal a quartz geode. Other artworks have a deeper concept beyond their aesthetic value. For example, a statue of Venus displays the map of Atlantis, inlaid in multi-colored, heart-shaped marble. Elsewhere, the foot of Poseidon boasts fossils embedded in its surface.

Some of the more spectacular pieces, the Mexican white onyx sculptures feature refined finishes and rough crystalline surfaces. The natural, raw material seems to transform into the perfectly sculpted artwork. Or maybe it’s the other way around. Visit the artist’s website to browse through more of his work.
