The Plateau Lamp

View all 6 Photos

A creative table lamp inspired by nature.

Designed by Ferréol Babin for interior design brand DANIEL, the Plateau lamp offers a more imaginative take on table lighting. The distinctive silhouette references organic forms, while the ingenious use of wood provides an imaginative alternative to the traditional shade. Like one of the Ferréol Babin’s previous designs, Plateau not only draws inspiration from nature, but it also celebrates its beauty. Instead of a round metal shade, the lamp features a thin, asymmetrical board of ash wood. A pillar base made of steel gives support and adds a weighty feel to complement the lightness of the shade. The two materials also represent two worlds: industrial and natural.

The elongated form brings an organic element from nature to mind. At the same time, the integrated LED light creates a sense of mystery, as the slab of wood illuminates downwards with a warm white light. The design keeps any presence of technology hidden and allows the natural features of the wooden top to shine through with a poetic twist. Seemingly illuminated from within, the wood glows with a soft, comfortable light.

The design is perfect for a wide range of classic or contemporary interiors; from a side table in a bedroom, to a living room, or a desk in a home office. The Plateau lamp features a powder lacquered steel base with a column-like shape. While the top boasts a natural ash color, the base comes in three color options: Black, Orange, and Green.
