The Fragment Series by FICT Studio

View all 7 Photos

A collection of home accessories and furniture made with marble and resin.

Founded by designer Jang Hea Kyoung, Seoul-based FICT (From Craft to Industry) is an independent design studio that makes furniture and home accessories using experimental design and craft processes. The Fragment Series exemplifies the studio’s approach to design perfectly. Made with marble left over from marble manufacturing factories, the series highlights the organic beauty of the material in a sustainable way. The objects feature marble with both striking textures and colors; the hues vary from ivory and light gray to blush pink, bright yellow, and ash. Left abandoned as industrial waste, the natural material now becomes the foundation for captivating designs.

The collection includes a wide range of products, from vases and trays to furniture and table tops. All of them feature marble along with crystal resin. Some furniture designs also feature plywood and veneer elements. However, each item has a distinctive design and character. While the side tables bring together woodsy and marble textures, the vases showcase the pieces of marble encased in crystal resin. The flat trays and coasters put the fascinating features of marble on display. At the same time, they transform the ubiquitous home accessories into elegant decorative items. Ultimately, each item from the Fragment Series is a work of art that showcases not only the talent of a young designer and the beauty of marble, but also the creative potential of industrial waste materials.
