A sustainable designer chair made from recycled plastic.

Designed by Japanese studio Nendo for Danish furniture brand Fritz Hansen, the N02 Recycle chair features an elegant silhouette and an eco-friendly build. Naturally, the chair boasts designer Oki Sato’s refined minimalist style. The sustainable design draws inspiration from an ordinary item: a folded sheet of paper. Made from recycled household plastic sourced from central Europe, the shell is also completely recyclable, if needed. The frame, legs, and base also feature between 50% and 95% recycled materials, depending on the chair’s version. The specific thickness and curved shape of the shell allows the tough polypropylene to become more flexible. At the same time, the subtly tapered form of the seat with soft edges enhances comfort.

Since it has a stackable design, the chair becomes easy to store when not in use, even in more compact apartments. The chair suits residential and commercial spaces as well as heavy-use in contract areas like canteens or meeting rooms. The N02 Recycle chair comes in three versions: with four legs, a sledge base, or a swivel base. All of them also come with or without armrests. Color options range from black, gray, and off-white to dark orange, dark red, and light blue, with a choice between powder-coated steel or chromed steel bases. Photographs© Fritz Hansen.
