The warmth of solid wood and the quiet elegance of minimalist design define the Kito collection of side chairs and armchairs.
Created in a collaboration between Emeco and celebrated industrial designer Naoto Fukasawa, Kito explores the beauty of natural, honest materials and the timelessness of minimalist design. The collection marks the first all-wood range produced by Emeco, after the special edition of the 1006 Navy Chair that celebrated the brand’s 75th anniversary. Translating to “life with wood” in Japanese, Kito brings the warmth of solid wood to Emeco’s vintage chair forms. Naoto Fukasawa drew inspiration from Emeco’s classic chairs for the design, resulting in a quietly elegant seating solution for any space.
“There are several classic archetypes of wooden chairs. Yet I also feel that there exists a common image of what people intuitively recognize as a ‘typical chair.’ It is something we only become aware of when that presence takes concrete, physical form. ‘Ah, this is the archetype of a wooden chair.’ Wood ages gracefully over time, gaining character and becoming even better with age. I feel that just hearing the word “wood” gives a sense of warmth, kindness, and familiarity,” says Naoto Fukasawa.
The Kito range comprises both side chairs and armchairs, all crafted from solid wood and designed with seats that reference the comfortable shape of vintage Emeco chairs. Steam-bent backrests, armrests and seats ensure precision and structural strength as well as minimal waste during the production process. Additionally, the steam bending technique enables the use of a seamless construction without traditional joints.
Craftsmanship stands at the core of Emeco’s design manifesto. The Kito collection is no exception. Made in the USA in a collaboration with Amish woodworkers who use sustainable, locally sourced wood, the Kito side chairs and armchairs guarantee long-lasting use and everyday comfort. Finally, They come in three gorgeous versions that look great anywhere: White Oak, Black-Stained Oak and Walnut.
Introduced at NeoCon 2026 in Chicago through an exhibition at the Emeco Showroom, the Kito collection will be available to purchase from September 2026. Photography© Emeco.
